Well I have completely healed and you really can’t tell what happened to me. About a month after my accident my neighbors put up the “swim worms” on the slide that got me. I don’t remember telling them what happen to me so maybe it was a coincidence.
Well spring/summer is here so it’s time to check over the RV and do some serious cleaning. Once it stays warm (over 50+) I will rent a steam cleaner and work the carpets over. More on this in another post.
Well back to the computer I was starting well it’s finally done or at least operational. I started the work back in Jan. after about 3 hours I ran into an issue that all research told me that the board had to be sent back. Well 61 days later I get an email that a replacement is on it’s way. Well it arrived and has been good since.
It’s a lot of fun seeing how things effect a quad core CPU vs say a Centrino mobile. Games that would hog the entire machine are barely a breath of air for the big box. I have another 4G of memory due in tomorrow giving me a total of 8G’s. This ought to run a few virtual machines for dedicated tasks. Next will be the rest of the hard drives and a newer DVD burner. (Why not Blu-Ray?) Why I say, I have been building system for about 14 years now and while some thing are nice to have when they first come out some things can be done later. In my opinion CD, DVD drives come down in price pretty quick also the media to go in these drives has to come down. If you purchase now your sitting with expensive hardware and no media. I’ll wait and let the drives come down in price, get faster and the issues removed.
Speaking of computers, I have dismantled my current desk setup and am selling it all off. 1) Dell Inspiron 8600 loaded, 1)Dell docking station, 2) NEC LCD1960Nxi flat panel monitors.
Replacing it is a Dell XPS1530 maxed out and a 24 or 27″ flat panel widescreen (still researching this and leaning towards Dell, again) This will simplify my cabling fiasco and the new monitor will allow me more screen real estate to do work.
Well I have been using my new laptop for about 2 weeks and it’s really nice.
For those that care here are the specs:
XPS 1530
2.6Ghz w/6M cache
4G memory
320G hard drive
15.4″ HD widescreen
a,b,g Wifi card internal
Verizon EVDO card for Internet everywhere
Bluetooth with EDR
DVD Dual-Layer writer
Avertech HD PCIExpress TV tuner (I love this)
Dell Premium Remote (Still working on this)
Vista Home Premium (Maybe Ultimate someday)
One upgrade though I have read mixed reviews an Intel Turbo Memory card (Intel’s name for ReadyBoost, it’s cheap and I have a slot in the laptop for it.
